Independence Day: July 4th, 2026

What Does Freedom Mean When So Many Are Still Fighting to Breathe?

Fireworks are beautiful.

For a few moments, we look into the night sky and remember ideas that built a nation: freedom, dignity, possibility, independence.

But Independence Day has always held a complicated mirror.

Because while America celebrates freedom, history reminds us that freedom has never arrived equally or simultaneously for everyone. Enslaved people helped build a nation that denied them liberty. Women spent generations fighting for the right to vote, to work, to own property, to control their own bodies and futures. Communities have continued struggling for access, equity, healthcare, safety, and dignity.

The story of freedom has always been unfinished.

And maybe that's what feels heavy for so many people right now.

Many are exhausted. Financially stretched. Working harder while feeling less secure. Pulled into constant noise, outrage, and division. There is a strange loneliness in modern life—this feeling that despite all our technology, many people are carrying enormous burdens quietly.

People are surviving.

But survival isn't the same as freedom.

What is freedom if your body is sick?

What is freedom if fear and insecurity dictates your choices?

What is freedom if healthcare, healing, and support feel out of reach?

What is freedom if women and vulnerable communities continue feeling pushed to the side of conversations that directly shape their lives?

Real independence isn't just political.

It's physical.

Emotional.

Spiritual.

It's having space to exhale.

It's having access to healing regardless of your income.

It's being reminded that you still matter.

For more than 21 years, You Can Thrive! has believed that healing should not belong only to people with privilege, resources, or financial ease.

We've built something different.

We have offered free and equitable services because a cancer diagnosis already takes enough. Fear takes enough. Exhaustion takes enough.

No one should lose their support system too.

Every day we continue creating spaces where people and their families facing cancer are held with dignity and care:

• Therapeutic sound and meditation

• Emotional support and navigation

• Nutritional coaching

• Tapping and stress relief practices

• Community and connection

• Resources that remind people they are not alone

Behind every program is a human being trying to keep going. Behind every human being trying to uplift from dis-ease is a volunteer practitioner giving them love.

A mother.

A daughter.

A sister.

A husband.

A sons.

A friend.

Someone quietly fighting for another day.

Freedom lives in those moments too.

And keeping that freedom alive requires community.

Just $18 a month sponsors a woman in need and helps sustain these services for someone walking through one of life's most difficult journeys.

Eighteen dollars.

Less than a few coffees.

But to someone receiving support, guidance, and healing: it can mean everything.

As we celebrate independence this year, perhaps the question isn't simply "How free are we?"

Maybe the deeper question is:

How do we help each other become free?

Free from isolation.

Free from despair.

Free from believing we have to do hard things alone.

And speaking of freedom through healing...

On Tuesday, July 7, we invite you to gather with us for one final public summer experience before our fall return:

Twilight Tuesdays: Therapeutic Sound + ReikiFeaturing Artist in Resonance: Ben Brown

Ben brings powerful rhythmic resonance and immersive sound experiences designed to help us return to ourselves—to quiet the noise and remember the stillness underneath it all.

Join us freely. Join us fully.

Show up in force.

Bring your heart, your headphones, your exhaustion, your hope.

Because healing was never meant to happen alone.

Even through the summer pause, our private work continues daily for those diagnosed with cancer through offerings including:

• Tapping with Steven Gottlieb

• Nutritional Coaching with Amy Diamond

• Patient Navigation with Eileen Moran

• Reiki with Phyllis Abend & others

• Therapeutic Sound with a collective of talented practitioners

• + many additional healing resources and support services

All our events and private services offer regenerative care to others. Now that's interdependence! That's Freedom.

Freedom begins with remembering that we belong to one another.

Happy Independence Day.

With love,

You Can Thrive!
