THE CAREY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES ALLIANCE WITH YOU CAN THRIVE!; 2017 TUTU PROJECT GRANT WILL FUND INTEGRATIVE CARE TO SUPPORT WOMEN DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER
New York, December 20th, 2017 – The holiday season is looking bright for You Can Thrive! and the thousands of clients that have taken advantage of the free/low cost services available only through this organization.
You Can Thrive! facilitates free and low-cost services so that those diagnosed with breast cancer enjoy a better quality of life both during their journey through the traditional treatment maze and after those protocols have been completed. Evidence-based therapies of acupuncture, massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, sound therapy, tapping, daily yoga, meditation and nutritional counseling address all aspects of mind, body and spirit.
In addition to the physical treatment protocols available through licensed practitioners who donate their time and skills, Advocacy and Patient Navigation services offered are paramount in guiding women through the maze and emotions of receiving a breast cancer diagnosis. This organization provides thousands of long-term free and affordable services for women with cancer across the country.
When YCT Founder/Director Luana DeAngelis was diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age, she was moved to action by a lack of resources and affordable after care for those living with a breast cancer diagnosis. She framed YCT’s model from an insider’s perspective - “holistic, integrative, nurturing, and emotional aspects of supportive health are the feminine expression of healing” Luana states. “In order for anyone to heal long term, they must address the contributory factors to their disease and not just focus on the “symptom of cancer”. To heal fully and completely we must elevate the feminine aspect of healing to that of equal importance to the male aspect; this is true of all life- threatening illness.”
Thirteen years post-diagnosis, Linda Carey recognized that her commitment to her personal health needed a kickstart; this is how she discovered You Can Thrive! “During the last five years I have been so busy with life that I had neglected really taking care of myself. When I found and used some of the services that You Can Thrive! offers, it was a reminder of how invaluable these types of services are to women going through breast cancer. Survivors are in need of these services - it’s an important part of their recovery and continued health.” When asked how the programs helped her she states, “I’m more calm and centered.”
Linda mentioned You Can Thrive’s services to the Board of the Carey Foundation and they agreed with her that there is a great need for this type of supportive care. With Board approval, You Can Thrive! was one of the 2017 grant recipients from the Carey Foundation. Monies received will help sustain YCT’s innovative aftercare paradigm.
You Can Thrive! is a unique and self-less “love model” that effectively addresses the well-identified need for/free low-cost aftercare support services and long-term survivor ship tools within the breast cancer community. The partnership is natural, as The Carey Foundation is also a “survivor driven” organization. You Can Thrive! will work hard to ensure that The Carey Foundation “gets a good return on their investment” in making a positive impact in the lives of people with cancer.
